Revegetation

Revegetation can be left to nature.

Or it can be assisted by planting of selected species. This is usually done in conjunction with spraying of a mixture of knockdown and residual herbicides to kill competing native species. The residual herbicides are quite toxic, and by definition remain in the soil for a considerable time.

ClearFelled Slope

This area had a sandy grey topsoil.

Some remnants of this soil are visible towards the bottom right corner of this photograph. Bulldozers were driven over this slope to flatten remaining residue. Rain that followed this activity carried the topsoil into the gully below, leaving the orange subsoil exposed.

Poor Revegetation

An attempt has been made to re-plant this site. Two years later it looks very patchy. This may be partly caused by the amount of topsoil lost into the gully below?
